Finance Tips for Couples Living Together

When you first get married, one of the most important things that you will have to learn to work together on is finances. If you aren’t on the same page as your spouse, you can get into a lot of debt fast. Here are some tips to prevent this.

Set a Budget

The first thing you’ll want to do is talk to each other about a budget. If you both know how much you make, you can more easily understand how much can be spent on expenses and how much should be saved. Be sure to discuss what things are important to you and your partner. For example, is going on vacation important? If so, how much should be set aside each month so you can go on vacation? If something costs more than what is budgeted, are you both OK with getting online personal loans, or would you rather wait and save up?

Big Purchases

Never make a big purchase without consulting your partner. What qualifies as a “big purchase” will depend on your own situation. For many couples, this might mean any item that costs more than $100, but for others, it may be more or less. Decide as a couple what that means for you. This should help prevent problems with overdraft, which can easily happen when two people are withdrawing money from the same account. It’s also good because one partner might not want to spend money on this item or that item, and discussing it before you purchase will help prevent arguments about money. To keep your love alive and prevent strife, communication is the key when it comes to finances.

Love is Good

At some point in life, most people are going to love someone else. While this love might not be reciprocated and it may end up in tragedy, the point is that at some point most people will find some love within themselves. As much as it usually hurts, love is ultimately a good thing for several reasons. This is for all the people who think it’s nothing but pain because they aren’t feeling good right now.

Love is good because you get healthier when you’re in it. While you might find that you’re constantly afraid of the loss of love when you’re feeling it intensely, you might also notice that you don’t take as long to heal when you’re physically wounded. You might also notice that your blood pressure is lower, which can actually keep you alive longer. Love is one of the most powerful medicines in the world, even when it makes your palms clammy and your heart feel like it’s going to beat out of your chest.

Love is a good thing, not becauseof what happens when it’s gone, but what happens when it’s here. A person finds the strength to overcome any obstacle when their spirits are buoyed by the power of love. While it may sound sappy, the greatest strength is found when a person is in love. No other emotion can compare to its sheer power. Fear and hatred can be overcome, but love moves mountains all by itself. This type of power is great because it doesn’t cost anything, and almost everyone gets access to it at some point in their lives.

Make it a Movie Night

Want to do something, but don’t have lots of cash? Make it “movie night” at the house; it’s so cheap that it could be done for free – or, someone could make a few bucks and friends will want to do it again.

Just about everyone has a DVD player these days. If one needs to be borrowed, do it and set up plans with friends to come over. Decide which movie will be seen and then go rent it – they’re only a couple of dollars at most.

Call friends and tell them which movies are going to play, and ask each one to bring something different. Have one friend bring chips, another one bring soda or beer, and another one to bring popcorn.

Make Movie Night Pay You

Michael, in Portland, Oregon had an idea, too; he invited six friends and asked each one coming to bring $2 to pay for the whole night, movie and popcorn. Then, he got whatever snacks were wanted, being reimbursed as the friends come over and give their $2.

He already had microwave popcorn, so he only bought chips and dip for $5 and two movies cost $6 to rent, bringing his total to $11. Six friends came, gave their $2 each, and the party was free plus one dollar was earned.

Any number of people can enjoy a movie night with friends for very little, and there are enough movies to do it regularly. Someone could have a movie night every Friday with friends and never spend much at all.
